I don't want to spoil it, but I'm sure you'll all be convinced your vote matters now...

See, convinced?

I don't even know what to say anymore. I'm sad. I don't want to switch on the radio. I don't want to live yet another cycle of terrible news. Is it really the world we're living in now, with a terrorist attack every freaking 6 months in France and bad news all over the world every other week?

I just got back from vacations, yesterday was our National Holiday, I took the day off (because I was a tiny bit jetlagged...). Today's my birthday. I'm supposed to be happy. But I'm sad, and I'm tired of it.
I've decided to join the Fandom Stocking this year! Here is my stocking.
I will do my best to fill everyone's with a little something, fics or arts. This is so much fun! Looking forward to this. \o/

This is heartbreaking and sickening. I can't help but think I was living there not so long ago. It was my life. It could have been me. I could have been going out tonight, could have been a victim, or at least been caught in the fear and confusion of a major city closing down afterward, on a Friday night.

Each time I hear updates, the number of casualties have increased, and it hurts a little more. I'm glad that I don't live in Paris anymore. I feel Madison, is negligible enough to be safe. And yet, it's also hard to be so far from my country in events like that.

Thank you to all for your kind words. They are truly appreciated. It brings little comfort to know people care and that we're not alone.
The Sixth Anniversary of the airing of the White Collar Pilot episode is on October 23. Time for another round of Caffrey-Burke Day! Don't miss the date! In case you're not familiar with this yet, click on the image below for details. Of all the challenges and fests giving the tempo of the fandom, this one is my favorite. Because it's celebrating in the simplest way in the world the most adorable partnership. Seriously, you cannot not love them. (And I'll prove it to you on Oct. 23... Teasing teasing!)

Peter: You mean Burke-Caffrey day.
Neal: Burke-Caffrey, Burke-Caffrey. It's all about the bromance. Who cares?
Peter: It's usually custom to go with alphabetic order, just saying...
Neal: Bennett-Burke day, then?
A freaking stupid helicopter accident in Argentina, during the filming of a French TV show, killed 10 people, among which 3 sportsmen. The legend skipper Florence Arthaud, and the really too young Camille Muffat and Alexis Vastine.

Just tragic.
Woooo I'm super excited!!

So, I just wanted to tell you that for anyone who would be interested, we're setting a reaction post at Team DeKay, and everyone is welcome to come and share their thoughts about tonight's premiere. (Wooohooo!!)
It happens that this is a TDK fansite, but of course all White Collar fans are welcome! :-)
So come and join the party! \o/

(A little over-excited, me?)

Also, Anodyneer/Daclaren will be tweeting live from the @teamdekay account :-)

Announcing!

Sometimes, the Old Stories Are the Best!

If you wish to promote this community, please cut and paste the following into your journal entry:

Look at my shiny new journal!
Okay, that's still the same style, but I've been playing with it a bit. As much as I could anyway with a free account and very limited knowledge in coding. But I like it. And I've finally looked how I could add a banner. Cause really, I needed one, right? For now it's just a temporary quick fix. I didn't have much time to do something I'm actually proud of. I need some brainstorming. I might even make it rotate, like other journals.

So what do you think of that new look?

Also, you'll be please to know that my fanfic and fanvideo master lists are at last up to date. Not that I had a lot to add actually (one vid since last october, and one fic) but it was bothering just to know that they weren't up to date.
We're going live!

[livejournal.com profile] anodyneer and I have been cooking you a new fansite dedicated to our beloved Tim: Team DeKay Check it out and bookmark it! This is your new reference for everything TDK, all in one place. :-)
Of course, you'll recognise the unmistakable talent of [livejournal.com profile] kanarek13 who did the awesome header. Kanarek is also providing TONS of screencaps for the gallery.
Said gallery is still growing, but the most recent stuff has been uploaded.

If you happen to have anything you want to contribute, feel free to contact us, via LJ, the site, or your usual social network.
Spread the word and come visit us. We're looking forward to hearing back from you!
All the cool kids are playing so let's do this. It took me some thinking, and I'm still not sure I didn't forget one big elephant I can't think of right now. I also tried to diversify things, and not turn this into a "in case you didn't know I'm a big George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh fan". And surprisingly, I'm realizing that despite seeing about 40 movies a year at the theater, you can't really understand everything about me just by the films I watch. Also, narrowing things to 10 is DIFFICULT.

Anyway, here it goes. Don't hesitate to ask me to elaborate - I'm really tempted to do it all right there, but it seems you're supposed to ask. ;-)

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).

1 - O Brother, Where Are Thou? (by the Coen bros. 2000)

2 - Ocean's Eleven (Steven Soderbergh, 2001)

3 - The Great Dictator, (Charlie Chaplin, 1940)

4 - Into the West (Mike Newell, 1992)

5 - Le Bossu (The Hunchback, Philippe de Broca, 1997) French Swatchbuckler film. Not to be confused with Disney's Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Not same thing at all!

6 - Moon (Duncan Jones, 2009)

7 - Tomboy (Céline Sciamma, 2011) French indie film about a little girl pretending to be a boy.

8 - Wall-E (Andrew Stanton, Pixar, 2008)

9 - Big Fish (Tim Burton, 2003)

10 - The Harry Potter franchise. (from 2001) "Mr Potter, our new celebrity..."

Bonus track: you can't pretend to really know me until we've talked about Batman & Robin, the best turkey ever!
No, really, sometimes, people...
I am currently working in a lab while actually being payed by my former lab, the one where I did my PhD. It was just a matter of getting the money where I can find it, while willing to diversify myself but man, what a mayhem that created.
For example, as I'm officially employed by my former lab, I am considered external guest at my actual lab, so I'm suppose to pay the external (very high) price  at the staff canteen. So I've been using some student's ID for 2 years... Well, at least I found that nice enough student that didn't eat at the canteen and who was kind enough to switch ID with me... So, for the canteen I have a Vietnamese name, which doesn't seem to disturb them too much.

Meanwhile, in my former lab...
They've merged with a bigger entity, and all the administrative stuff seems to have been handed over to someone else. Someone I've never met and who has no idea who I am. In the past months, no kidding, I've been asked 3 TIMES the same infos regarding my PhD, my current contract, dates I started, dates I finished... And also, by chance, if had the contact info of another student that doesn't seem to respond... That's the freaking 3rd time I'm giving the same info! And now I don't know who are the current students, I'm not the secretary. Oh wait, you are. It's all on Google by the way...

Also, I've been given a brand new email (that I didn't ask), which luckily remains attached to my old one. Except merger with a big entity means even more useless flood of emails... From a lab I'm not even working at!

Oh and did I tell you about my landlady who makes appointments to get the flat I'm living in appraised and only after making the appointment ask me if I'll be there? Too bad for me I won't. So some strangers are going to enter my place when I'm not there, and I need to leave keys to my nice neighbor so that she can let them in. Hopefully my neighbor will be there...

Okay, sorry for the rant. Just needed to get this out of my system. Now back to working on that presentation for my conference in 3 weeks!
About a little funny test full of clichés on the French?
Check this out: How French Are You?

As a French, I'm always amused by how wrong/funny certain clichés are, and at the same time how true other are.

That said, I got a 60%. Which makes me " as French as Jean Dujardin eating camembert on the Canal Saint Martin. You’re pretty French. You know good food and good wine and although you’re a pessimist who complains a lot, you always know how to enjoy life."

I guess it's good since Dujardin is actually French. And so am I. ;-)

So, how about you?
So, I'm back! \o/ I'd love to make a coherent yet not tedious summary of that wonderful week I spent with [livejournal.com profile] nieseryjna and my friend Tim in Scotland, but wow that might be quite a challenge. Especially given how busy I am, how I find myself trapped into unexpected businesses and there seems to be a backward Sherlock marathon tonight. So how about a simple random recap instead. Assorted with pictures of course.

So there were castles, rain, sun, clouds, daffodils, the first landing field in history, sheep and sheeplets, long hair cows, rainbows, drunks in Glasgow stil able to give you useful bus directions, a volcano in the middle of the city, tours of gift shops, lochs and their wee monsters, mountains, fine pieces of ingeneering, William Wallace, Whisky tasting, driving on the left with a French car - driven by a Scot, B&B in the middle of nowhere, in the dark, the most classy University library, Starbucks, the Harry Potter viaduc from the other side, flowers, bagpipes...
Also, Nie didn't manage to crack the safe...

And here are some illustrations:All under the cut! )
For some unexplained mysterious reason, the National Gallery suddenly felt the urge to make LEGALLY available HD digital copies of some 35,000 of their masterpieces. Like, you know, you wouldn't have to exceed your radius to admire all this art... I wonder if that was an idea suggested by Elizabeth so that criminals on anklet could still enjoy all those beauties from home, or if that was an idea from the direction to discourage such criminals to come and visit their friend from too close. ;-)

Byyye !

I'm going to Scotland for a week with my buddy [livejournal.com profile] nieseryjna. Chance is I'll be AWOL for a while. I'll be back online on the 16th.
Before I leave, I wanted to share some pretty cuties. ♥♥Warning: adorable content behind the cut )
Matt Bomer to quit White Collar without completing Season 6

In a declaration to Deadline, Matt Bomer has announced he was quiting the TV series that made him famous as the suave Neal Caffrey.
The show has recently been renewed for a shortened 6th season of 6 episodes, prompting outrage among the cast and the fans.
The previous season left Caffrey in quite a dire situation as he was victim of a kidnapping. Matt Bomer's decision to leave the show now directly calls into question the future of his character as of the series itself. ... Read More

And my apologizes for the heart attack. ;-)
Hello my collar friends!

I'm going to Sacramento for a conference the second week of June, and I would like to take the opportunity that I'm crossing the Atlantic to do some sightseeing in the area the following week, starting June 14th. I'd like to go visit San Francisco, and a few other things, like Yosemite Park.

I know it's a little short notice for vacation time, but would there be anyone up to come play tourist with me between 14th and 22th of June?
And for those who know the area: what are the things I need to see while I'm there?

Note: I can't change the dates, because of the conference the week before. (Though I can arrange my touring schedule if we can arrange part-time)
I would really love to meet you all for real one day, so this is one opportunity. And I'm very easy-going, I'm sure we would have a lot of fun.
I've been collecting movie tickets for about 13 years. I used to put them all in a box. But the other day, I bought a neat file to archive them all. How fun it was to go through them all. Some of them almost unreadable for too much time spent in my wallet at the time. Other keeping the scars of the boat origami I made with them.... And through all of them, I could see the periods of my life. Time when the price was in Francs. The wonderful times of High School. The time when the theater changed brand, so tickets changed. When I moved to Nancy, Pau, finally Paris. The occasional exotic tickets from holidays (Edinburgh, New York, but also that wandering outside theater in the middle of nowhere, France). The one time the ticket printer was broken and the name on the ticket is hand-written. The time when nobody ripped off the detachable part. The oldest tickets: La Vita è Bella, O Brother. Those that started it all, because those movies were such a shock and discovery that I didn't want to through the ticket. Every single movie George Clooney did since then. A few doubles. The birth (and death) of franchises. Harry Potter, The Lord of the Ring, Spiderman, Ice Age, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Bourne movies... Some great memories. Some not so great memories... A few movies I have NO memories at all.

In all, approximately 450 tickets.

This is for a good cause, and Tim will be there! You have no reasons not to go! Register HERE
God, I'd run my butt off to keep up with Tim if I could join. Why is life so unfair?
