It's a cute vid, but the way the American system works, the vote of most people really doesn't count on the national level. If you want to affect the elections, you'd be better off doing the minimum needed to allow you to vote in a swing state.
Or, in this case, since a lot of people are going to vote just in order to make sure the other candidate doesn't get in (and that's true for both sides) - it might have been a good idea to mention something about the dangers of voting for a candidate who's unlikely to win.
The whole system is rigged. The nomination process on both sides showed it. Previous elections showed it too. And I agree that it's sad to be voting against as opposed to vote for, but when it happens, it's still your duty as a citizen to make sure the worse doesn't happen. I'm likely facing the same thing in presidential elections in France next year...
The Mark Ruffalo joke was funny, but honestly, all the first part of the video was making me a little bit uncomfortable. Having Hollywood telling people what to vote is not exactly productive... This will only re-inforce the Trump supporter in their position.
And an election is different than supporting a cause or asking for a donation... I mean, I understand that they are worried, everyone sane enough is worried. But those Hollywood stars telling you what to vote? It feels to me it's going a little too far.
Vids like this will not convince people who already know who to vote for, but there are quite a few people who don't know and haven't yet made up their mind. The question is how they will take it.
It indeed can be counter-productive, though I'm not sure it will have that effect in the US. In Israel, a left-wing celebrity who expressed his disdain for the other camp in the previous elections ended up practically handing them the victory.
I guess in the US it doesn't actually make much a different, people are used to celebrities endorsing politicians. And it tends to influence more whether they like such or such celebrities because they share their views than endorsing a candidate that your favorite celebrity support.
Oh I remember that video! The main difference it that it was a non-partisan video. It was telling you to vote, not who to vote for. Which to me seems more appropriate.
All that said, I've just watched the first debate tonight, and I really sincerely hope with all my heart Hillary will win...
