Well, I've bought an extra DVD player just not to bother anymore with Region 2 releases. ;-) It's really not expensive.

Can't justify buying a new player right now. There's a lot of other things on our list, more important things unfortunately (like this computer's screen, which is threatening to die). So I'll just have to be patient and watch the downloads in the meantime.

Seasons 3+4 are region free. You should be able to watch them without problems on your usual dvd player. At least I could in Germany.

Amazon and eBay says that they are regionally coded. It may be that the DVD player in Germany you used was multi-regional - many are these days, but mine is older, before multi-regional became more normal (and legal) in the UK.

But thank you, I had just assumed they were regionally coded. Always good to double-check.

Yes, but they are wrong. Donnataft is right. The DVDs are actually R1, R2 and R4 (don't ask why)
I think in season 2, half the DVDs were only R1 (again don't ask why).
I think it was Kanarek who checked that. And I can attest that I did check on a R2 only player.
You can ask Kanarek about the S5 DVDs, once she receives them. (I don't have that R2 player here anymore)

I didn't even know multi-regional player were legal! That's cool :-)
