Birdman. Quite an interesting film. Almost entirely filmed in
one shot. That's just brilliant. It would probably have been better (to my taste at least) without the weird supernatural turn, but the insight on the acting world is pretty cool. Also quite a cast! Michael Keaton is great.
Big Hero 6. I have a confession to make. I don't like superheroes. I broke up with Batman about 15 years ago.
Iron Man was enjoyable enough, so was
Guardians of the Galaxy. But that's about it. But
Big Hero 6, oh boy! Not sure what it was with that San Francisco-Tokyo fusion (Seriously, couldn't we just either set it in Tokyo, or go all the way, Disney, and make it completely American?), and of course I guessed the bad guy the second he appeared on screen. But hey, nerdy scientists are cool! And awwwww Baymax. Adorable, and hilarious. And the whole story was really touching. And
funny. But in a more genuine, less ironical way than
Guardians of the Galaxy. So, yes, bottom line: the superhero movie for people who don't like superhero movies.
Batman the movie. You know, that old movie from 1966, based on the TV show, with Adam West as Batman. That very one whose theme Mozzie and Jones are hmmming in that episode. It was showing at the University for free. I had seen some excerpts here and there, and I was expecting something really bad but funny. but OMG I wasn't expecting something
that terrible and hilarious at the same time. It kinda reminded me of
The Return of the Killer Tomatoes, in the sense that they're perfectly aware how terrible this is, and they conciously make a parody of themselves.
In other news, I just came across this
totally awesome edit of all the Coen brothers' films. It made me want to see them again. I fell in love with the Coen brother the same day I fell in love with George Clooney. O Brother was a big revelation for me. Stylish, funny,
artistic. I think that's the key. I had this revelation that filmmaking was art. There are some films that I like better than others, but I haven't missed a single one of their films since. Also caught up a few classics, and of course I'm excited that they're currently filming their next one,
Hail Ceasar. :)
