1 - Batman - he's my childhood favorite. And I don't care if George actually ruined it for me at first - although on second thought Batman & Robin remains the most hilarious Batman movie. Oh no, scratch that. Batman The Movie, from 1966, is definitely the winner. Just thinking about it I'm laughing. And the reason why I liked Batman as a kid is that he doesn't have superpowers. I've always felt that it was too easy for Superman because he's the strongest of them all. Also, Batman is the smartest one. ;)

2 - Baymax - Cause really he's all kind of awesome. And he gives you hugs.

3 - Mr Incredible (the whole family really, but I feel like if I start listing all the cool superheroes from The Incredibles it'd be cheating).

4 - Iron Man - Cause I like the fact that Tony Stark doesn't abide by the superhero rules (well, at least in Iron Man 1 and 2, which are the only one I've seen and liked) and that he's having so much fun with being a superhero. Also RDJ.

5 - Spiderman - I enjoyed the first 2 films with Toby McGuire. And I had to find a #5.

(wouh I've done much better than I thought I would given I'm not into superheroes LOL)

I love Iron Man (Tony is just soooo much fun)! I remember enjoying some of the Batman movies (and yes, that includes Batman and Robin), but then the movies looked far too dark for my liking. I was brought up on reruns of the 60s show, after all!! :D :D

Baymax looks fun from the one clip I've seen and I know I enjoyed at least one of the Spiderman movies, but not sure who was the actor in it. Never seen The Incredibles. I really must catch up on movies I've missed one day!!

And I'm late for the party :( But Batman only the Christian Bale version, but I love him so I'm biased :D

Wohoh for Iron Man, absolutely yes to all, including RDJ

Wait - just thought of it now - Does Zorro count as a superhero? Cause then he's definitely my #1!

Hmm, not sure, but considering that Arrow's only gift is his physical prowness/use of arrows, I think Zorro has a good case for being a superhero - from what I remember of him! :)

Okay, let's think...

1- The Three Musketeers - my childhood favorite. D'Artagnan was my first serious crush. I got obsessed with everything sword and buckle, sword fights and all. Also, it's a story about friendship. And Alexandre Dumas had such a way with words. playful and precise. Nobody writes like that anymore. (Also I guess it probably doesn't come across as well when not in its original version)

2- Flowers for Algernon - So beautiful and so heartbreaking...

3- The Help - One of the best books I've read the past few years

4- Les Aventures de Boro, reporter photographe - it's a series of books following an hungarian immigrant living in Paris in the 30s and 40s. He's a photographer for a news agency (a fictional Cappa if you will), and we follow his adventures through historical events (Nazi Germany, Civil war in Spain, then WWII). It was written by 2 authors and one died a few months ago, so I'm guessing we'll never get a 7th book *cries*

5- The Martian - best book I've read last year.

Heh, the only stuff I've read in recent memory is so light compared to that! It would be interesting to read the Three Musketeers after seeing so many movies and their takes on it. Hmm... if I ever get the time, I'll put it on my list!

Is The Martian what the movie was based off of?

Be warned, tt's really a huge book so you really need to have enough time.

There hasn't been any really decent adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Ironically the closest one is the Disney version (with Chris O'Donnell and Kiefer Sutherland). Unfortunately it's obvious they had read only 1/3 of the book... It goes all of a sudden completely sideways...

The Man in the Iron Mask isn't too bad if you're not too attached to the story, nor History... But it's so "Americanized", so full of clichés...
This one is actually an adaptation of part of the third book of the series, and it's even bigger! Those books, like many of the French classics from the 19th century were the TV shows of their times, published one chapter at a time in the newspapers. :)

Yes, The Martian is the book the movie is based on. Both are great, and the movie is pretty faithful to the book (which is rare!).

3. Tv Shows

From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
1- White Collar - what a surprise! ;)

2- Sherlock - the only show that I gives me as many feels as White Collar. If only there were a little more episodes per year...

3- In Treatment - The most addictive TV show *ever*. It all takes place in the shrink's office and it is so fascinating. Also Gabriel Byrne ♥♥ There's no way you can't fall in love with him while watching this show.

4- Person of Interest - The more I watch it, the more I love it. Awesomely badass characters all around, great concept with very high quality writing, and a solid and precise backstory. Also, despite the fact that it is rather pessimistic and a bit violent, I like the idea of saving people, instead of investigating their murder.

5- The Good Wife - Just one of the most brilliant TV shows of the past few years.

Love White Collar and POI too. See Good wife of and on it is a pity the series concluded. In treatment sounds interesting (I quite liked house) hopefully it will be telecast here sometime soon.

In Treatment is very different from House. It's just people talking to the shrink and revealing their stories. It's awesome, but just very different. But it's from 2008, so if it hasn't aired yet in your country, not sure it ever will... It's been released on DVD worldwide though.

1. Movies!

1- O Brother Where Are Thou - First film I've seen with George Clooney, and first Coen Brothers film I've seen, and still my favorite. Of George's and the Coens. :)
2- The Great Dictator - Charlie Chaplin made a bunch a timeless masterpieces, I had to pick one. This guy was a genius.
3- Le Bossu (1997). It's a French film, and the best "sword and buckler" film ever.
4- Into the West - An Irish film kinda for kids but treating kids like adults, dealing with serious problem (loss, identity...) and a horse called Tir Na nOg. And an heartbreaking Gabriel Byrne.
5- Moon - my favorite Sci-Fi movie. Very little special effect, but a great story, and an amazing Sam Rockwell.

7. Movie characters

Date: 2016-06-12 05:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Oh that's tough! I've actually realized recently that in TV shows, the characters are the most important. If I don't care for the characters, I'm going to lose interest, even if the series is really good. It happened with Boardwalk Empire or UnReal for exemple. Rectify too. On the other hand I can truly enjoy a movie even if I don't particularly care for the characters, or even if they're all bad guys and gangsters. The investment is different. A movie is only about 2 hours, so the story as a whole and the artistic aspect become more important. But let's try and see if I can find my favorite movie characters.

1- Roberto Benigni's character in La Vita é Bella. What this father did to protect his son from the horror of the death camps was hearbreaking and so beautiful. And at the same time requested so much strength.

2- Lagardère, from the movie Le Bossu (1997 - I precise the date cause there's a ~1950 version that is definitely not as good). My idea of the true hero. With a sword. ♥♥

3- Snape - It's really the movie version of Snape that made me fall in love with him the moment he walked into his classroom, in the first movie. "Harry Potter, our new celebrity." I was doomed. If he had turned out to be a villain, I would have turned to the dark side...

4- Danny Ocean - Doesn't get any better than George Clooney in a tuxedo with his bow tie untied... ;)

5- Mike Wasowsky from Monster Inc. :D

(There's probably a few really important characters I'm missing but off the top of my head, it's hard to remember all the movies I've seen!)

Ah! TV characters, now that's a much easier task! :)

1- Peter Burke! Naturally :) My real superhero, my ideal man, my inspiration. Doing his best to be the best agent, the best friend and the best husband, but that's not always an easy thing... (To be honest, I could just make a top 5 just with the WC characters, but let's try to put some variety, so one character per show)

2- John Reese, from Person of Interest. Yes, he did some terrible things. But as Harold puts it, "John has the heaviest heart of all of us, but he's fighting the hardest to be good." I find it touching how desperate he is to make up for his past sins, and his gratitude toward Harold for giving him that chance. Also, he's just a big softy wrapped up in an assassin. He didn't truly have what it takes to be a CIA operative. Also, he's the most badass lefty, and that's a clear bonus point! :)
(again that show is full of awesome characters. With a special mention for Detective Fusco)

3- Dr. Paul Weston, from In Treatment. I guess the transference was just inevitable...

4- Jonesy, from Carnivale. It's not just that it's Tim DeKay, but he's truly an amazing character. A fallen angel, good, and loyal, and strong, and adorable...

5- Zorro, from the Disney series with Guy Williams. I did have a serious crush as a kid. Should have I added him in the superhero list? Does he count? Cause he's definitely my favorite then. I like that he's a positive hero. He's not of the tortured kind. He just came back from Spain and was like "oh look how many injustices here, someone has to do something. Let's pretend I'm a bookish idiot and secretly fight crimes at night." And I do love how he makes sure his Diego persona makes him the least plausible suspect. :D And those ridiculous Spanish costumes, especially in the colored version ROTF. Guy Williams did look good in them.
