That was an awesome variation on the main credits!

One car crash, check. The show must have a hell of a car budget...

"2015" - 2015! See, CBS, you screwed up with the show timeline! It was supposed to be 2015!

Hey, one not so bad guy in the CIA?

John!!! John ?! What the... ?! NO! No no no! Why are you doing that? Don't push her away! Don't let the brunette get into your head! You can't trust her! She shot you remember? Why don't you listen to Carter's ghost from last season instead ? Iris is good for you. Don't do the same mistake all over again.

(Yes, I'm totally shipping John/Iris. I would sooo love a happy ending for those two. I'm perfectly aware that a happy ending is rather unlikely given the show, but hey, one can dream? At least, if both could make it out alive, that'd be good. Then I can imagine my off-screen happy ending.)

I looked at the post title and thought "WTF don't do this to me, it's not next week yet!" and helloo SPOILERS! But hey, then I remembered oh it's twice a week this time :)
btw. how many episodes do we get for the end season? with 2 eps per week it's gonna be over way too soon.

Awww sorry!! I did write it was 5x03 precisely because I wanted to make sure it was clear...
Yes, it's 2 episode a week until the end, with 13 episodes total. 10 episodes left, so 5 weeks.

On the one hand, I wish they had taken their time, with a normal 1 episode a week schedule, to make it last a little longer.... But as a binge watcher, I kinda like getting high doses. ;)

I don't think John has much of a choice at this point, though. There's no way he can tell Iris about what he's up to, and that means he will always be keeping huge secrets from her and barely letting her see a glimpse of his life. Whatever way you look at it, that's a crappy base for a relationship.

Still, it was a sad ending to the episode.

Very much looking forward to next week!

Well, yes I know. Especially now. I mean, he did break up when he was a regular, normal, above the board soldier, so now that he's an ex-CIA assassin turned secret vigilante fighting a secret war between two super intelligent AIs, and with so powerful and dangerous enemies, it makes even more sense. But I thought sending her away for awhile at the end of S4 was enough.

Plus, I was so happy to see her again (I was wondering if we'd see her at all), and I liked that - even if kinda improbable - he was making sure *not* to break things up with her.

Because the whole tragedy of his life is that he broke up with Jessica and he wasn't there to save her, so... Kinda feel like he's doing it all over again here. I just hope it won't end so tragically again (despite the fact that it would feel just right in the show's alley) because it would just break my heart.

I totally get where he's coming from, and that was probably a reasonable thing to do, but still, I'm sad and I hope it's not the end of it.

Maybe when this is all over, he'll finally be able to open up to her?

Well, hopefully things will at least calm down. Either Samaritan will lose, or it'll probably kill them all in the end, so...
In the hypothesis that they do survive, and they go back to the relative safety of S1, John could choose to give a shot at happiness.
Or I can see a scenario where both Samaritan and the Machine are killed and so John has to retire from his activities.
