In high school, I had a great English teacher. We learned a lot of things (vocabulary, grammar or cultural points) watching movies or learning songs. (And because, when watching a movie, we'd stop every other minute to talk about it or note a new word in our textbook, it took us something like 5 months to watch Cry Freedom...). Anyway, we also studied John Lennon's Imagine. I remember coming back from school one day, singing the song and then telling my parents what it meant. Like most French people who have a rather limited English, all they knew about the song was the "Imagine All the people" part and didn't get how provocative it was.
