That meme caught my attention a few weeks ago, I meant to do it, but like others I had some issues with its format. And now it's all over my flist. So let's do this! Pick a question or two:

1: How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

2: Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

3: For each of the fandoms from #2, what were your favorite characters to write?

4: Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?

5: If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

6: When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

7: Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?

8: Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.

9: Pairings: For each of the fandoms from #2, what are your three favorite pairings to write?

10: Pairings: Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?

11: Genre: do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?

12: Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

13: Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

14: Ratings: how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

15: Warnings: What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?

16: Summaries: Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

17: Titles: Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

18: Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

19: When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

20: Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

21: Sequels: Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

22: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

23: When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

24: Betaing: How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

25: Music: Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it
completely quiet?

26: What is the oddest (or funniest) thing you've had to research for a fic?

27: Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

28: Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

29: What is your current project or projects?

30: Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

12: Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

If I get this right, that would be have Peter and Neal (and everyone else) in the settings of a different story?
Not really. I like fanfictions mostly as a way to explore and extend canon. Sometimes, I can find a scene or a particular situation in a book or a movie interesting to explore in the White Collar universe, but I don't really like making White Collar something that wouldn't be White Collar.

30: Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

Oh that's such a tough one. And it tends to change...
I'm proud of what I did with The Fatherhood Chronicles (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/110091.html). It's a series of little snippets in the future of the characters. I like those future fics, cause it creates a reality beyond the series. The end of the series wasn't the end of their lives. Also, they might seem short - about 500 to 1k words each - but in total, it's +13k now. And there's more to come!

Also, I quite like The Color of the Wheat Fields (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/109700.html). I wrote it right after the finale, and almost a year later, and having passed through all the colors of the rainbow of feelings about the finale, I think that's probably pretty close to what would feel true to the characters, and it deals with about all the aspects of the finale.

Don't know if it funny or odd, but I had to understand the rules of baseball - and that wasn't easy! - to write the first scene of One Constant in Many Variables (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/144867.html) because I had something precise in mind, but I had no clue if it was plausible.

I also had to look for what was a likely time for Hockey practice for my last page of The Great Book of Little Neal (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/148965.html) because the art I had made had Peter on it, so Peter needed to be possibly present at the time of practice - We know he makes a point of leaving work on time, but it wouldn't be realistic for him to leave in the middle of the afternoon.

Ah yes, sport rules - I'd have to look them up if I wrote something with sport in it too! Well, other than F1 motor racing, but I can't see Peter and Neal taking part in that! :D

Though I think Neal would make a handsome driver...

Well, there are lots of sports I have a good enough understanding of, but baseball ?! Why can't they just play soccer like everyone else ? ;)

18: Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

There are two main ways I get "bunnied". The first one is from the show itself. Something happens, and they don't insist on it enough, or I want to explore a character's feeling. Or they'd say something about past events and I want to write it. My main source of inspiration will always be first and foremost the show itself. Back when it was on air, I'd write quite a lot of episode tags.

The other main source of inspiration is either a scene from a movie/show that I think could work well in the verse of White Collar, or someone launching an idea, a simple word, a piece of art, a title, that would trigger an image in my head. Then I'd build an entire fic around this original image.

Oh and for The Fatherhood Chronicles, I do get some ideas from either my best friend's baby, or my own childhood (or what my parents would tell me about it).

I tend to add them to my project list, though if I'm particularly inspired by something, it might get to the top of the list. I still finish what I'm working on at the moment before tackling something new.

21: Sequels: Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

That's actually an interesting point. I've written a few "companion pieces", that are either set at the same time, from a different point of view, and a couple ones set in a same verse. I've also obviously written a whole series on Peter and Little Neal. But they all can be read independantly, and therefore are not direct sequels. I usually think of each story as a one shot (even when it can have several chapters) that doesn't leave a lot of room for a sequel.

Though I guess with me exploring the post-series future, I'm starting to write more and more things that could be considered sequels. And I do try to have everything fit in a same coherent universe.

Interesting answer :) I've never written a sequel either, though I think you've come closer than me with the Little Neal series :)

7: Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?

No. My opinion on a character is based solely on the show itself. It's all there, and in the case of White Collar, I think characters are rounded enough that you get a clear opinion on who they are (unless you're terrible biased, but let's not go there...). If a fic doesn't fit what's on the show, then it's just OOC. To me, the only truth is in the show.

I've read a couple of very good meta posts that brought up good points about characters, but I've never read a fic that made me re-considered my view on canon.

10: Pairings: Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?

Not really. I've written only very recently a Neal/Sara little ficlet, but otherwise, in term or pairing, I've stuck to Peter/El. As for anything, I only like canon pairings, so I wouldn't even try anything different. And it's not that I don't like N/S or feel that I wouldn't be able to write them, it's more than I don't have enough interests in them. I do like them, but never felt the need to write about them.
Peter and El on the other hand... ;)

But I did find a little difficult to write Peter and El before they became Peter and El, in A Little Twist of Fate (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/137966.html). We're so used to see them together, that it was hard to imagine how they'd behave before they got together, what they were thinking, what drew them together.

16: Summaries: Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

Well, I find it hard to come up with a good summary. I often feel like the summary gives away something. But at the same time, I am well aware of their importance, as this is likely what will decide someone to read the story or not.

25: Music: Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

I listen to the radio, or music most of the time, when I'm not doing anything noisy (like cooking, or watching TV), but there's nothing specific for writing. I guess I just need some noise to fill the void in general.

11: Genre: do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?

Definitely fluff and angst. If I wrote a couple of h/c, it was more to explore the angsty feels of the other characters. I actually have a hard time hurting my characters. But I do like a good angst.
And fluff, well, what's not to like a cute and fluffly little fic? I like my characters to be happy. It makes *me* happy.

22: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

I did a few. I did the BB once as an author - I had a WIP at the time, so it was more a question of good timing (Miles to Go Before I Sleep (http://aragarna.livejournal.com/97357.html)). Though I haven't written anything remotely as long in a loooong time.

It took me some time to feel confident enough in my writing to start signing up for challenges and fest. But now I do, and it's fun. I even participated to the Run the Con last month! (as a very slow writer, I wasn't sure I'd pull it off, but I was desperate for some action in the fandom). Hey, I even got my first Bingo card! :)

I'm all for it, as long as it doesn't put unreasonable pressure on me.

And of course, I also participate as an artist. I do like the BB and RBB for that, as it gives you a chance to work with different people. And I like creating art for a specific prompt or story.
