treonb and china_shop. List the first lines of your last ten stories. See if there are any patterns.
1. They’re slowly walking down the alleys of Hyde Park.
2. Peter braces himself for the impact.
3. Neal leans against the railing of the Pont Neuf, watching as the sun slowly sets behind the Eiffel Tower, casting on the sky and the river running below his feet, a soft shade of orange and pink.
4. Elizabeth picks through the bathroom’s door to check on Peter.
5. It is the darkest point of the night.
6. Mozzie nimbly climbed the front steps of the Burkes’ home, and swept his shoes on the front doormat.
7. “Here, Pumpkin, hold my hand. This is a big supermarket, I don’t want to lose you in this giant maze.”
8. “This is…” Mozzie croaked.
9. “You’re sure you’re gonna be okay?”
10. Peter had the feeling that since he had become a father, his colleagues were seeing him differently.
Interestingly, lots of present tense. I do like writing present tense when I'm writing short fics, especially those dealing with feelings. (#5 actually switches to past tense after the short intro)
Also, I hadn't realized that I hadn't written a Fatherhood Chronicles in such a long time. It seems to be by phases. The last 4 (the oldest) are all Fatherhood Chronicles. Which, for some reasons, tend to start quite often with dialogues, while for most of the others, I start with a line setting the scene, or more often by an action.
All those sentences seem pretty short.
Lots of post-series fics, too. Still, one pre-series, and one set in S4.
To be noted that the most recent one marks my first Sara/Neal fic. ;) And that #3 is one of the rare purely Neal-centric fics I've written (off the top of my head, there's only one other). Oh and #6 is also my first Mozzie-centric. :) I do write him every once in a while, but rarely as the center character. But I really wanted to give him a voice about the post-finale events.
In the work: one set during canon, one post series.
So, what next? A Fatherhood Chronicle? One more post-finale? More pre-series?
Also, I need cover arts to update my masterlist!

Date: 2015-10-04 10:10 pm (UTC)Even more revealing I think was to see the order of those fics. I think if you go even farther to the past year, you'll see the same scheme. A period full of Fatherhood Chronicles, a period full of post S6, a period of different stuff... And you don't see it here, but there are also periods of Great Book of Little arts. Sometimes, it's conscious, I feel the need for a change, sometimes it's not.
