Day 18 - A movie that disappointed you the most.
My first thought was Interstellar. There might have been other movies in the past, but recently Interstellar was probably my biggest disappointment. I like smart Sci-fi (which is not easy to find in films...), and I liked Christopher Nolan's early films. Even Inception was good, and on paper, even on trailer, it looked promising. So, I was looking forward to it. And boy was it boring and bad. Yes, the black hole is cool. And the worm hole. But there are so many stupid plot holes! The story doesn't make a freaking sense! And the idea of aging differently was awesome, but then used in a very unsatisfying way. And don't get me started on the whole "inside the black hole" nonsense...

Date: 2015-09-18 03:16 pm (UTC)I'm usually pretty good at guessing what to expect from a movie, so I avoid the movies I know I wouldn't enjoy much, but sometimes, you make mistakes...

Date: 2015-09-18 05:32 pm (UTC)I've been trying to ignore the plotholes for most of the movie because of the fantastic visuals, music and - Nolan. They finally lost me during the "transmitting crucial data from the middle of the black hole using morse code".
It's definitely visually stunning, but I didn't care for the story or the "message" much (Love will save us from everything!!!) and the last twenty or so minutes moved it firmly into the "disappointing" category...
It was all the worse for the fact that Inception is one of my beloved movies.

Date: 2015-09-18 06:31 pm (UTC)And I had forgotten about the Love bull... Seriously?! It's already barely acceptable in Harry Potter, but in a grown-up movie ?! Please try to come up with better plot ideas!
The Honest Trailer points to some of the main issues (though not all of them. They forget the beginning where basically, the guy was the best pilot, is discarded from the secret Nasa mission, finds them totally randomly, and so they take him in after all, cause he's the best pilot...)

Oh and so, when he is in that black hole communication with Murph from the past, he tells himself to stay BUT at the same time gives himself the coordinates ?!
No really, no.
(sorry for the multiple edits)

Date: 2015-09-18 07:39 pm (UTC)And I "loved" all those reviews who said that if you didn't like the movie, it's because you don't understand the science or can't accept the complexity of quantum physics. Sorry folks, I had no problem with the blackhole and wormhole bits - it's the rest of the movie that was a mess.
And it could have been great if they hadn't screwed up the script...

Date: 2015-09-18 07:46 pm (UTC)Glad to find someone else in the Universe who saw the film the same way I did.
Speaking of script, I read recently an interview of Jonathan Nolan saying that "his" ending would have been Cooper going into the black hole and dying. End of Story. That wouldn't have saved everything, but still, I was glad to read that he still had some sense. (Cause, come on, that's the guy who created Person of Interest!)
