The 30 day Movie Challenge - Day 8

Day 7 - A movie that makes you sad.

Well, I could say that Daredevil makes me sad, in a way... LOL. But I'll actually go with a movie that makes me cry, and for good reasons. I think one of the movies that made me cry the most (apart from Life is Beautiful previously mentioned) is Grave of the Fireflies. Man, is that story sad and depressing. I mean, it's great. But it's soooo sad.

Oh boy, the movie I remember tearing my heart out was 'Who Will Love My Children' (according to wiki it was a made for TV movie based on a true story, made in 1983 and set in the fifties).

Anyway, the mother has cancer and the father has health issues (arthritus in his hands, I think) that mean he won't physically or financially be able to look after their ten children when the mother dies. So she goes looking for homes for all her children, not wanting to leave that to the authorities. She succeeds in finding homes for 9 of them, but one of the boys has epilepsy and she fails to find him a home.

So, tears when the mother dies and more tears for the boy left in an orphanage.

Then, one of the couples who adopted the brother of the boy with epilepsy are moving to the other side of the US and take said brother to see him one last time. Seeing how upset they are to be separated, the decide to adopt him.

Yeah, cue a puddle of tears on the floor for teenage me!

Other movies that get me are those 'pet get separated from owner', 'pet has adventures on the way home' and 'pet reunites with owner' type movies. I always cry at the reunion. Always.

But I didn't cry at Titanic or Romeo and Juliet, for which hubby says I'm a hard woman, lol!

Oh Titanic doesn't make me cry. Actually it mostly makes me laugh. The rich and in particular the fiancé are a real hoot.

What usually makes me cry the most are stories that involve kids. Or dads.

I love that film, even if it makes me cry too.

Grave of the Fireflies is definitely worth watching.
