I should be working. I do have some work to do. But I'm bored. And my LJ feed is so desperately quiet. So here is the meme of the day:

Ask me anything.

Pot meet kettle. *eyes tabs of research*

Umm... if you could live anywhere in the world (and didn't have to worry about costs or anything, you know visa, etc...) where would it be and why?

From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Oh that's a good question! Where would I want to live?
Hmm.... Would I really want to live in a big city? Well, I guess if money wasn't an issue, yes, I think. Paris, or New York. Some big city where lots of stuff happen. Like festivals, exhibits, plays, the certainty that every movie would make it to my city.
Of course, implying that I could afford a comfortable place in the greatest location.

Paris has the advantage of French food and family proximity. Though, New York... Well, it's New York.

How about you?

Hmm... it's actually a tough question! I would love to live in the San Francisco area, just because of the weather and I love the area. But alas, I'm also spoiled by suburbia, so something just outside? And I'd want to drag my family too, because I can't live too far from them anymore. Of course, they all would love to live there too, so that works!

Ah yes, the bay is a nice area, and SF is a cool city.
Interesting that you'd want to live in the suburb. Though it might be a difference of conception between American and European towns. I'd much rather live downtown anywhere (well, at least in European cities), where everything is accessible.

And yes, if I could live anywhere, family would definitely be a consideration. Also, food. Totally. That is *so* important.

Another question?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Date: 2015-08-17 07:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] reve-silencieux.livejournal.com
Well, even though I haven't lived downtown, I lived pretty close and worked downtown in DC for a couple years and everything closed down early! (I know NY is different) But I miss having BIG stores. I want to be able to stop at a grocery store and find things. I like malls where I don't have to drive or walk down streets to find another store. (and really, who wants to walk in Texas heat???)

Umm... let's see. What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

Date: 2015-08-17 07:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Ah! That is a good question.
When I was a kid I wanted to be one of those people who put Playmobil scenes in display and toy stores... Or be a mattress tester. ;)

To be honest, I think my job is pretty close to what would fit me the most, so it's hard to imagine what else I could do. Though I also think that if I was born just a little later, I would have discovered computers earlier in my life and would probably have found something computer related. I really enjoy the little programming I learned. Or I could be a web-designer.

Being Tim DeKay's personal assistant is another career path I fantasize about... ;)

How about you?

Hopefully, back in France, with a permanent job. And a boyfriend. Who would look like a young Peter Burke.

I guess some of those goals are gonna be more easily achievable than others. ;)

I've always said, if I had stronger math skills, I would have been an architect.

And that is still true. Even though I don't build buildings, a lot of what I do creatively is about making beautiful structures that stand strong. One of the things I find the most challenging about writing is putting together plots that hold tight, which is why I think my stories tend to go epic. Every part needs to be consistent, fact-checked, logical.

Oh so at my local grocery store, they're making crossovers between peaches and mangos, or between plums and apricots... That is kind of weird. And not that great.
Oh and grape that tastes like wine?

Otherwise, I've eaten fried crickets. My former office mate had brought back some from Brasil.

The mixed fruits don't always turn out right. I like the intent, but sometimes you just have to stick to the fruit the way it should be.

Crickets?? Ewwww!!!

Umm... I'm not that adventurous when it comes to 'weird' but I'm sure my definition of weird is different from most. (I'll try most fruits, veggies, etc...)

I would have to say some of the squids. I do not like squid. Seeing the suckers just gives me shivers. Also, I'll pass on the caviar and escargot. I did try a Buffalo burger once. Guess what? It's just meat. *shrug*

LOL well, a buffalo is just a big cow. ;)
(I did try the Buffalo burger too.)

I love calamar! yummy ;) Caviar and escargot not so much...

ETA: oh and the crickets weren't that bad. Mostly crunchy fried thingies. Though I refuse the idea that in the future we'll have to eat insects. I need my big grilled steak.

Yes I know! But 1- I told myself I shouldn't write fic at work (I know, doing a meme isn't better). 2- I don't think I've updated the file in my dropbox... /o\

So, I got into White Collar because one of my PhD mate was, like me, into TV shows, and he was trying a lot of different things during his night shifts on the instrument. Then he would report what he liked and what he didn't. So, he's the one who told me I should try it. We had in common that we loved caper movies, Ocean's 11 and the likes, all those smart criminals... So White Collar was totally made for me.
So, I gave it a try. It took me about 2 or 3 weeks to watch the first 2 seasons and catch up with the US airing. I was oh so totally hooked.

From there fandom was a natural evolution. I've been on fan boards before, related to George Clooney and Gabriel Byrne mainly.
Original, I mostly wanted to share my love and discuss the show. So, I joined the USA forum. I had been playing around with Photoshop and video editing already, so as my obsession shifted, the subject of my arts changed. ;) But I wasn't really actively into any artistic community.

Then, Winterstar 1- convinced me to join LJ to share my art, and 2- convinced me I should take the jump on fanfics.

The rest is history, as they say. ;)

How about you?

That's tough! I have a lot of fond memories...

I'll go with the day I offered Tim the birthday book for his 50th birthday. I made him smile, he gave me a hug, and that is the best gift he could give me in return.
And more generally, all the White Collar related memories are very close to my heart. I feel very fortunate that I had the chance to meet some of the cast, and the crew, to have been part of that adventure.

It's one of those things that I thought was totally crazy. Flying to New York City, meet with some strangers I had met only online, to go and try to meet some people from a TV show?!
But somehow, I pursued my dream, I made it happen, and it is now part of my fondest memories. New York City, a great TV show, and the nicest people in the profession.

Will there be any other show like White Collar? Will I ever be able to meet other actors? Chat with some very chatty producers (Can't remember his name but one of the exec totally spilled the beans to us about Ellen dying and Sam/James...)?
Probably not. But at least, I was part of that one.

ETA: how about you?

Gee, I have a lot too.

Some of the fondest are days spent at Jones Beach with my mom when I was young. We had so many wonderful summer days there, playing in the water and on the sand, walking the boardwalk, sharing a cup of clam chowder. When I was very young the Jones Beach theater was a real theater where they did musicals in the open air, under the stars. My mom took me to see Carousel, Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, and Fiddler on the Roof.

Magical experience and memories all.

What is your opinion of poetry?

Date: 2015-08-18 02:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
wow now that is a serious question. LOL

What is my opinion on poetry? Hmmm I don't know. Some I like, some I don't. Poetry, to me, it's a lot like a song. Either it talks to you, or it doesn't.
Though I think the sonority of it is also crucial, and it would be best to listen to poetry than to read it.
I have an immense respect for people who can write it. I sure can't. This is a really tough exercice.

So how about you?

I detest rhyming poetry with very forced rhyme. Otherwise, I adore reading poetry, with a strong preference for free verse.

I haven't had any exposure to slam poetry, or I'm sure I'd admire the sound of it too. Exception - Sea Fever by John Masefield is one of those poems that has to be read out to be enjoyed.

I write poetry, and it's not that hard. Mine are basically just written out feelings. All free verse.

Depending on where I'm living, spring or summer. I need some good sunny weather, not too hot, but warm enough. And definitely sunny.

Mmm, I'd say spring or autumn. I like spring when things bloom and it's good weather for all sort of outdoor activities; early autumn is good for that too, plus the fruit matures (and unlike spring, no exams in autumn :D )

I've got nothing against winter except that I miss the green. Summer OTOH is usually too hot for me - I'm always tired in that sort of weather, and you can't really do much except swimming and staying by the water.

I was watching "In Plain Sight" and read that it's part of the "Blue Skies" programming on the USA Network, so I tried the other shows that were on too. I liked Royal Pains for a few eps, Psych was nice, and I just fell in love with White Collar :-) I also discovered it just after Season 2.

(ETA: Forgot to mention, it's all due to the USA logo, which made me start thinking there might be other good shows there. So I'm quite thankful it was there).

And how I got into fandom? I vidded a bit, and then I think I was looking for vids to watch and discovered LJ.
