aragarna: (a meme!)
[personal profile] aragarna
I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] veleda_k's journal last month, but I was too busy at the time, so I kept it in a little corner for when I could breath again. My abstract is submitted (24 hours ahead of the deadline!) so, it's meme time again!
I thought it'd be nice to have a sort of White Collar round-up now that "canon is closed" as they say. But it can also be other shows if you feel more like it.

Give me a character, and I'll tell you:

How I feel about this character
All the people I ship romantically with this character
My non-romantic OTP for this character
My unpopular opinion about this character
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

I'm assuming other people will say Peter and Elizabeth (though if they don't, I'll be back), so Diana.

Oh Diana!! :-)

How I feel about this character: She's awesome! She's strong and snarky and independant, doesn't let anyone intimidate her, and won't take any bullshit (whether from Neal or Peter). But she's also very loyal, and if you're honest with her, she'll be honest with you.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I liked her with Christie. I wish we had seen more of them together, though at the same time I like the idea that the whole marriage thing freaked her out. It showed a more vulnerable part of her. And that's also something that does happen in relationship. People being together for years, and suddenly the perspective of getting married (or the fact of being married) breaks them apart.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Hmmm tough one. Would be either with Peter or Neal. I love her loyal and trust relationship with Peter, but I also love very much her snarky comments to Neal. ;-) So, both I guess.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Ah not sure. I don't really know what's the popular opinion on Diana. I'd assume everyone loves her. Well, kind of unpopular in the sense that it's not the majority, but I wish we had more of Diana (and Jones!), especially in the last season. Because Diana and Jones deserve more exposure. And I really missed her in season 5.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wanted her to stay in New York so that mini!Mozzie and mini!Neal would grow up together! Oh the Shenanigans.... And the parents regretting naming their kids after two criminals... ;-)
(Though the fact that Peter googled the distance tells me he's planning on visiting a lot :-) )

Heee! I cannot believe I never put two and two together - Theo and mini!Neal are both named after them! Oh that would be hilarious!!!

Oh, Neal so has to come back, just so he and Moz can corrupt, err, shape their minds. :D

How I feel about this character: Mozzie is awesome, and he brings an essential counterpoint to the Peter-Neal dynamic. Mozzie is a very interesting character. Quite paradoxal. He keeps stating he's a loner, but he's craving for a family and can't live without Neal.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I think of his various ladies, I liked him best with the booky waitress from By The Book.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: It has totally become Peter/Mozzie. The evolution of their relationship is simply fascinating. I love their awkward little dance of caring without admitting it, all the while *still* driving each other crazy.

Though I do love too Mozzie's endless loyalty to Neal, too.

And actually when you think of it, it's amazing how Mozzie gets (more or less) along with everyone. June, El, even Diana in the end...

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know if it's unpopular, but I don't think Mozzie has to change. Mozzie is comfortable in his criminal shoes, and he accepts the responsibilities. He doesn't have Neal's doubts about it. Also, Mozzie often passes for the sidekick, but one shouldn't underestimate him, he is just as ressourceful as Neal.

And I certainly don't blame Mozzie for stealing the treasure, because that's who Mozzie is. He's a criminal. He sees an opportunity he seizes it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Hmmm I don't know... I wish we had seen his reaction to Neal not being dead, maybe.
Oh and actually, had Neal finished his sentence and be a free reformed man, I wonder if Mozzie would ever have dropped trying to lure him back to his side.

Oooh, love this post :) I agree with probably everything written here. I love how season 6 has given us so much of the Peter-Mozzie bromance. (And in reaction to your thoughts on Diana - I totally wish she stayed in NY too so we could see the new generation's Neal and "Mozzie" shenanigans :D)

Awwww, Moz.

That is so them!! It is funny that he has a similar relationship with Diana. I think that Moz's friendship with El helped with the development of his friendship with Peter.

Even tho I think Moz would respect Neal's decision to live the reformed life, I do think that every now & then he would ask Neal for a little help & on occasion Neal would agree.

From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Ah Peter... (what's the word limit on LJ comments? ;-) )

How I feel about this character: He's okay I guess....
LOL Okay, I LOVE him. He is everything I'm looking for in a man.
He's truly, genuinely, a good man. And he constantly tries to remain a good man. He has moral principles and he tries to live up to them. He's always trying to do what's right. Not what's right for him, but what's morally right. His idea of the "system" is not about the bureaucracy, its loopholes and crooked officials. His "system", the one he'll always fight for, is an ideal of Justice that is there to protect the people. And for that reason, there's nothing he despises more than those corrupting and using that system for their own interest.
(and I'm *so* happy that he remained ASAC. That's his right place. Peter would never quit, because he'll fight for the system until his last breath.)

I think that's what I'm going to miss the most now on TV. No single cop or federal agent out there lives up to such high standard. They're all a little grey on the edges (if not seriously black...)

But that "good guy" thing is not just about his job. Because it's who he is. So of course, he also tries very hard to be a good husband. He never takes El lightly or for granted. It doesn't matter if her worries/poutings are justified. He'll make it up to her. Because her happiness is what matters.

And that is also the core of the matter in his relationship with Neal. He cares for Neal. He made him part of his "family" and he wants to be a good friend. But being a good friend with a criminal sometimes crashes with his morale principles.

It doesn't help that he always feels responsible for everyone's safety and happiness. He hates upsetting the people he cares about.

Also, as I stated in the past, there's his playful side. Not just that. Peter is a happy guy. He sees the positive side of things. That too, is very refreshing among the plethora of brooding and/or traumatized heroes...

Ah and yes, well, there's the fact that he lives in Tim DeKay's body...
Okay trying to keep it short (ahah), jumping to next questions now.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Elizabeth, only and forever.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: both Neal and Mozzie. His relationship with Mozzie has truly taken an amazing turn in S6, culminating after Neal's death. There's something very touching in their begrudgingly friendship. It started as an alliance in the common goal to protect Neal, and now it's something real. Despite the fact they have *nothing* in common and can't stand each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character: His reactions to Neal's doings in season 5 were perfectly justified and that doesn't make him a monster. Had he handwaved it all and pat Neal in the back, that would have destroyed him as a character. Actually I think I've never be more proud of the show than when they took that risk. Certain reactions showed that it was indeed a risky road, but they didn't shy away from it, and they didn't ruin Peter's character in the name of an easy bromance. They did it right.

Another opinion where I'm sure I'm in the minority is that I honestly find him more attractive than Neal. Blue eyes and curls are *so* overrated... (Not that I don't find Neal attractive, but standing next to Peter, he doesn't stand a chance ;-) )

... (apparently I've reached the limit...)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: That's a very interesting question, because I kinda wish we'd have more about Peter's past. We know everything about Neal, we met El's parents. And though we know bits of Peter's past, we don't know much. We don't even know if his mom is still alive. But at the same time, contrarily to Neal (and that bunch of brooding heroes) Peter isn't defined by his past. Sure he probably inherited his moral compass from his parents, but that's not even necessary.

One thing I wish had happened, more for Peter than for me as a viewer, is that Neal had gotten his freedom fair and square and not cheated his way out without telling Peter. After everything Peter has done for Neal, he deserved to see him free. Cause it hurts like hell to think that Peter never got to celebrate the take down of the Panthers, never got to tell Neal he was proud of him, and that instead he was left thinking he had failed his friend. He must have felt terribly guilty. He didn't deserve that. (And I am honestly having a hard time forgiving Neal for that...)

I am with you with all of this (but I do see Peter/Neal as my OTP and Peter/Elizabeth/Neal as my OT3).

And you're not the only one who thinks he's more attractive. From the very first episode - I called him my God in a Bad Suit. He pushes ALL of my buttons.

Thank god they tailored his suits in the following seasons ! Because really I've never seen anyone wearing suits (or any clothes) better than Tim. He's so elegant it hurts.

How I feel about this character: Funny. At first I didn't like her that much. Some time around season 3, she was kind of reduced to the accessory to the obligatory shirtless!Neal scenes, and I was finding that rather annoying. But she's gradually grown on me. Mostly on S4. I like her best when she's in an episode for a reason (like helping on a case), though I actually like her with Neal, too, now. I think she's a good match to him. She's very strong, independent. She knows exactly what to expect from Neal, and she's not that naive little thing that he likes in other girls (Kate, Rebecca...). And that is precisely the reason why their relationship worked (works? will work again?). It's based on actual honesty. Neal and Sara are just who they are with each other. They knew who they were from the start (Unlike all the other girls Neal seduced/fell in love with).

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Neal, obviously, for all the reasons stated above.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Peter. They have a very interesting relationship, based on respect, professional trust, but also genuine care.

My unpopular opinion about this character: what's popular? to like her or to hate her? Oh well, I guess my unpopular opinion is that I don't feel passionate one way or another. I like her. She was a good match with the rest of the cast.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish that she'd been the one for Neal. I know we can imagine what we want now that it's over, and since Neal doesn't have anyone else in his life now, it can still be Sara, but I wish she hadn't just disappeared so far away in canon.

Date: 2015-01-06 05:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] reve-silencieux.livejournal.com
YES! Totally agree on all counts. At first I thought she was okay too, but I wasn't in love or shipping. I didn't realize until later that she was great and a perfect match for Neal. Because like you said, she's strong and not naive. I never understood Neal's great love for Kate, or Rebecca or anyone else really.

Peter! Yes! I love how they work together, and his little talk to her that night was great, even as uncomfortable as it was. That's just Peter.

*sigh* Yes, yes, yes. I'm going to believe that Neal will go back to her. But I guess this way, JE left it open for anything and anyone. Easier I guess, but hey! They're closer now. :D

Date: 2015-01-06 06:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Well, until Neal comes back to NY. Because he is coming back.
Not sure how Sara is going to feel about Neal faking his death... She has her own issues about abandonment...

I think Kate and Rebecca's innocence appeal to Neal's protective instinct, and to his dreams of a legit normal life. (he dreamt of having kids with Kate)

Date: 2015-01-06 06:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] reve-silencieux.livejournal.com
Ouch. That's true. She might be a little ticked at him. After all, we saw how she felt when he went to Cape Verde. Hmm... that screams fic. :D *shoves plot bunnies away*

Protective instinct - I think that explains it nicely. I'm just glad in S6, he realized he was hurting them as well. So it really just goes to show that the honesty with Sara worked - she could handle him.

If I was in bad mood ...as I'm really are I should say Keller but I love you to much to do this to you so I say DIANA

From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Diana has been asked above, so I'm doing Keller. And I don't mind doing bad guys. This meme is not just for good characters. ;-)

How I feel about this character: I enjoy hating him. He's not my favorite villain (Fowler remains my favorite in that department), but Keller is still a very good bad guy. I particularly enjoy the way he gets under the skin of Neal and Peter. And his love/hate relationship with Neal is fascinating. He's an absolute loose canon. Totally unpredictable. But he knows what he's doing. That makes him very very dangerous.

Also, Ross McCall is Scottish, which is a good point for him. ;-)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I don't ship anyone romantically with him. I don't know if he'd be capable of actual, honest love.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Even non-romantic, I don't ship anyone. He's too toxic. His relationship with Neal is fascinating, but I don't find it sane in any way, so I can't really say I ship it.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't find his weird accent annoying. I just wish he didn't pretend not to be Scot. ;-)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Nothing. I wanted him dead, so that the world would be rid of such a dangerous creature, and he is.
Though I would have found it funny if Peter had shot him in the other kneee. ;-)

How I feel about this character: She's the luckiest person on Earth, because she's married to the best man ever.
Also, she's awesome (okay, I tend to say that of everyone on that show, but that's just because the show has awesome characters). She doesn't play the damsel in distress. She's very understanding of her husband (and his obsession with Neal). But she also stands her own ground when she feels she has to.
She's do *anything* to protect/keep Peter. She's very possessive of him. It doesn't mean she doesn't trust him, because she does. But she has her own insecurities when it comes to their marriage, because she thinks she married up, and she's sure someone else will see how wonderful her husband is.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Peter only and forever. ♥

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Mozzie? El doesn't actually have that much interaction with other characters. But it's funny that she gets along so well with Mozzie.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I like her being unreasonable and overly protective of Peter. It shows a more vulnerable part of her. Elizabeth is often reduced to the awesome wife who doesn't mind her husband's obsession over Neal and who is just there to play intermediary between the two of them. But El is not just an accessory to Peter. She's a complete and complexe character. She has her bad days, her fears, and (I'm sorry for all the OT3 shippers) Peter Burke is her whole world and her priority.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: hmmmm good question. Maybe I wished we had her reaction to Neal being alive. Also, I wish we had seen more of how Peter and El would have made the DC-NY commute work. Oh and Little Neal's birth! ♥

I will be different as you opened the forum for other shows to :P So to not make White Collar unhappy: I want to hear all about Ellen,

and to make things more fun about John Reese from POI

Date: 2015-01-06 09:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aragarna.livejournal.com
Should we take into account that Ellen is the mother of John's dead girlfriend? Hmmm maybe not...

ELLEN

How I feel about this character: She's nice. Honestly I don't have much to say about her. I like her, but she's always been more a tool to move the story along than a true character into herself.

Oh wait I have something to say about her: She's truly the worst treasure-hunt planner in the world! Seriously it's a miracle they found that box in the end... (and maybe it had been better if they hadn't...)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one in particular.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Neal of course. They had a very sweet relationship. Very protective of each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character: She faked her death. That's where Neal got his tastes for dramatic exits... And the truth is, she was the one who framed James. LOL I'm kidding. I don't really have an opinion on Ellen beyond the fact she's nice. Which I don't think is unpopular.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: It's never been very clear if she thought James was innocent or not (the whole story arc makes little sense to be honest...) and really I wish we'd know what the hell had she been drinking when she set that treasure hunt...

JOHN REESE

How I feel about this character: That is a very good question. I don't know really how I feel about him. Cause really, he's a cold blooded killer, and not exactly perfectly reformed. But at the same time, he seems so desperate for a redemption. I think the one thing that makes me like him is his almost naive belief in their mission to save people. It's so cute, coming from a former CIA operative...

And I have to say, Jim Caviezel makes very sweet sad puppy eyes. ;-)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: He's too fucked up to really be with anyone. I don't know if it would have worked with Jessica. And I don't ship him romantically with Carter (nor Finch)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Finch, of course, and Carter. I loved Carter, and her relationship with Reese, though I still think that kiss was unecessary. (you don't need to be romantically linked to someone to cry their death...)

My unpopular opinion about this character: he's funny!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: drawing a blank. I don't know. I hope he'll find some happiness in his life, cause that man needs to smile more...

How I feel about this character: We don't get enough of Jones!! He's cool, and funny. We needed more Jones!

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I can't say it really clicked for me with his ex. So can't think of anyone really.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Mozzie? LOL. Seriously, I don't know. He gets along with everyone but we haven't seen him much outside the van. Maybe with Neal. They had that kind of distanced but real friendship.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I didn't get enough of Jones! He deserved bigger exposure. I do think the show's strength was how well developed the whole cast was - not just the two leads - but Jones was truly under used.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I'm glad that he ended in Peter's position. I just wish that between his promotion in early S5 and the end of S6 we had actually seen him leading a case...

Oh Neal...

How I feel about this character: Well, to be honest, I'm not completely sure how I feel about him. I mean, I really like him. He has a good heart deep down, despite his bad life choices. And he seemed to have grown-up quite a bit next to Peter. And yet... Yet he still had so much to learn. Like relying on his friends. Trusting them. Accepting their help. And most of all, he still need to think of the real consequences of his actions. He means well, but he can be very stupid for a smart guy. Talk about a tunnel vision. He didn't really think of the consequences of his fake death on Peter, Mozzie, and everyone who loved him. Maybe because he doesn't really know what it is, to be loved and cared for. I think he didn't have an idea of the pain he'd cause. At least I hope so, or he's a sociopath... He should have told Peter and Mozzie about his plan. He owed them that.

More generally, I think Neal thinks with his heart more than his brain.

As he said in 5x05, he's a very good study. He observed and reproduces. It be a behavior, a skill, or an art. And he's very good at improvising. He can reads any situation in a second and make a plan.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Of all the ladies, I like him best with Sara. The one relationship that didn't start with a con, but with the truth. And the only one that last. Sara is a good match because she's strong and won't let him bullshitting her.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: both Peter and Mozzie, with two very different dynamic. Mozzie is his partner in crime. He's like a brother. Peter is more like the father he never had, and Neal always looks for his approval. But he loves them both equally, hence the endless headaches...

My unpopular opinion about this character: I really think he needs to grow-up and to open up to people. He can't just make decision on their own behalf. And sadly, he hasn't really earned Peter's trust, because he doesn't understand that trust is a two way street. (Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm still a little angry about his actions in the finale...)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Well, I wish he had told Peter and Mozzie. They deserved not to be left out. I also wish we'd know a little more precisely where is Neal's mother now. Just something less vague than "she checked out when my dad left".

Ah and I almost forgot Callen!

How I feel about this character! Poor guy doesn't even know his first name! And he's Romanian!! But he's also and will always be to me... Robin.

Mostly, and that's true for all the NCIS LA characters actually, it's not as much about Callen himself, as his relationship with Sam. Each duo in that show has its own dynamic and works well as it is. That's what I like about the show.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Ok, don't laugh, I had totally forgotten he had a girlfriend until that last episode. That's kinda the problem with the show, it's very superficial on each character's personal life (unless it's Callen's past haunting him, or one of Hetty's many enemies wanting her dead). It wasn't even clear where Deeks and Kensi were standing at the beginning of the season... (I suppose White Collar totally spoiled me in term of character development...)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Sam, of course! :)

My unpopular opinion about this character: That name thing is ridiculous. Couldn't someone just give him a name? Doesn't Helly know it? Why in the world isn't she telling him. It's quite embarrassing not to have a name.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wanted to know his name!!!! We were *so* close!

Let's go for Satchmo :)

How I feel about this character: I especially loved the short glimpse of puppy Satchmo eating Neal's bonds. :-)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I'll pass that one... ;-)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Elizabeth is his favorite. She always think about filling his dish and check his water. Peter is cool and very fun to play with - plus he sneaks food under the table. But when it's just the two of them, Peter sometimes forget to fill his dish and Satchmo is sad.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He's not a real dog. He's robot sent to spy on the Burkes' strange relations. In particular one short and balding guy. There was a close call once in the beginning, but luckily Satchmo pulled it off.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I really wish he had his own good bye scene in the finale. Everyone had except Satchmo.

I love your the bits about El and Peter, with El as his favourite, and lol at the robot conspiracy!! How did Mozzie not see that one?! :D :D

It would have been nice to see Satchmo in the last episode, such a shame we didn't see Neal giving him a farewell pat or something.

Thanks! :D

How I feel about this character: I like her. I like her relationship with Neal, though they would never work on the long term. They're better as opponent and occasional associates with benefits. ;-) That's "Neal and Alex" and they like it that way.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I can ship Neal/Alex, though like I said, it never lasts.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: no one. I don't think Mozzie really appreciates her.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't really have any.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish they hadn't completely forgotten about her during S3 and the whole treasure thing and then having her reappear magically in S4 explaining she was in jail all that time...

And you can go check my long answer about Peter above. ;-)

awww sweet!!

How I feel about this character: OMG so much cuteness!! Okay, we don't know know much about him but the cuteness potential is all I need. :-)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: We'll hold on that one until at least kindergarten. ;-)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Oh daddy!Peter definitely. ♥

My unpopular opinion about this character: I'm very happy he exists. :-) I was fine with Peter and El not having kids (I suppose it was better for the show's dynamic), but the idea of daddy!Peter has always tickled something inside. And I think they brought it just the right way. With joy, and no drama. Exactly like I imagined it. And Peter's joy about the perspective of being a daddy was simply adorable. So I'm very happy with the whole storyline. :)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish it had been a girl. ;-)
And also I wish we had a better shot of Peter and baby Neal...

I always knew it would be a boy... that circle of life thing was written in the stars.

I was also completely fine with Peter and El not having kids but Daddy!Peter...

Non-romantic OTP for Mini!Neal... why Mini!Mozzie (Theo), of course. Because we need Diana and Peter shaking their heads while Neal and Mozzie walk around smug, like assholes they are :P

P.S. Stealing your icon... it's soooooooooooooo cute -_-

How about June/Hughes?

JUNE

How I feel about this character: She's awesome :-) And really, Neal is lucky to have found the one rich old lady with a spare bedroom who appreciates bad boys... ;-)
I like that she accepts Neal for who he is, and has no regrets about her past and her life with Byron.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Well, Byron, even if we never actually saw them.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: It'd be Neal, though I also like her with Mozzie.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Seriously, who doesn't love June?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I don't know... I like her, but I don't really had anything in mind for her.

HUGHES

How I feel about this character: Totally the most awesome boss ever! I totally love his grumpy facade, hiding a big heart and true appreciation for his team. And I really like his understanding of Peter's relationship with Neal, even if he doesn't totally approves.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one. I was actually trying to remember if he ever mentioned a wife.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Like I said, I love his relationship to Peter.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Same as June, who doesn't love him really?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish we'd seen him more regularly. But I do like that despite the death of James Redhorne, he is still alive in the show (and happily retired in my headcanon, still visiting the Burkes every once in a while)

June and Hughes are great supporting characters, wish they had delved a little more into Hughes, especially his relationship with Peter. I love how self assured June was.
