It's over. Done. Adios, farewell, so long... It was time to say good bye. And it hurts. But it's been fun.
So this was not the ending I wanted. Actually this was precisely the ending I didn't want. I've spent weeks - actually months - repeating to whoever was mentioning that Neal would fake his death that this idea just sucked.
I don't like the presumed-dead tropes. I avoid those fics just as carefully as the actual death ones. Because for the persons left behind the pain is just as real (see Mozzie and Peter's pain at the Morgue)
And despite all the evidence throughout the season, I was clinging to the hope it wasn't that. But within 5 minutes, it was clear it would be that. And then I refused to believe Peter wouldn't be in the know. Though the scene at the Morgue proved me painfully wrong.
I'm still not super comfortable with the idea that Neal left Peter and Mozzie grieving for an entire year, but otherwise, I'm surprisingly fine with it. The episode was awesome and the con so perfectly executed. And isn't it simply the most fitting way to end with Neal Caffrey's greatest con?
This is not what I would have done, but I'm not the writer and what they did was still terrific and thrilling. And I get it, they wanted the stakes to be higher, the emotional charge to be at its paroxism. And it was. I didn't really need that kind of crazy ending but they wanted to leave with a bang, and it's fine.
And it was also fitting our own grieving process - and theirs. So in the end, I think it was a good way to end the show in style.
And appart from that one year thing, everything was so awesome.
The cool heist, with obvious nods to Catch Me if You Can (Neal as a Pilot!!) and a music that was directly ripped of the Ocean's trilogy soundtrack.
Loved Peter and Neal's clockwork. Peter is getting good, and also having a tad too much fun breaking into a safe... Just saying...
And all the callbacks to previous seasons! Cappucinos in the clouds! (also Peter looked hot in that dark shirt and jeans) June and the thrift shop!
Mozzie and his weirdness... What the hell were those glasses for?!
And Mozzie under a rain of money \o/
Jeff Eastin! (the guy who doesn't understand the treasure he's created LOL)
And a special mention to Keller, the guy that gets under your skin every time he opens his mouth.
I do wonder if Neal was hoping Peter would kill him or just arrest him.
Not that I'm sad he's dead, it's just as well, but Peter doesn't shoot people unless he has to. Though the world (and Peter and Neal's in particular) is probably just a little safer now.
and then the tragic turn.
"You're the only one who saw the good in me"
"Stop it Neal"
"You're my best friend" awwww. (That does sound a bit 10 years old to say "you're my best friend", but awwwwwww)
And then the scene at the morgue. I don't have words. Peter and Mozzie's grief was really painful. And Willie and Tim were just so brilliant (I've always suspected the show to have taken an emotional turn mid-run just to see those brilliant actors act (all three guys)).
"You're free" but not the way Peter dreamt to say it... *I'm not crying I'm not crying, okay Peter let's sit and cry*
Moving on...
Peter's a model father! And still ASAC forever ever after \o/ (at least I got that one!)
And Jones is finally going to be able to do his real leader job ;-)
Loved that scene.
A little sad that Diana is leaving to DC, because I wanted baby Neal and baby Theo to grow up together like brothers. (mini Neal and mini Moz, what a team they would have made!)
And Peter and Mozzie awwww
Baby Neal! Daddy Peter! (I went a little in adorableness overload here...)
and one last cute Peter/El moment... ♥
And THEN pfieww, my happy ending. That was a close call.
Neal's alive, he's in Paris! and tomorrow Peter will be too! :)
Along with Mozzie!
Hugs, tears, joy!
And the Degas is there too! Neal gave Peter back the real Degas that he had kept all this time... ♥
So now I can tell you.
Last week, when I met Tim, I asked "just tell me it's going to be a happy ending". And... his silent freaked me out.
Later he came back to me, and with a conspiracy look, told me "you'll be happy - don't tell anyone" - which now that I know the ending have me wonder if he wasn't just reassuring me, but also hinting at the finale destination... ;-)
Also, he let us guess the name of the baby, which of course re-freaked me out...
Okay, now, let's get back to our own grieving process. Where were we? Let's skip some steps, I don't want to be angry or depressed. So I'm floating between denial (that's just the season hiatus, right? the next season opener will take place in Paris? That'll be fun!), and acceptance (That was fun)
Man, I'm going to miss them so much. The characters. The banters. The fun.
White Collar is over. *Not crying, I'm not crying!*
But wasn't it AWESOME?

Date: 2014-12-20 04:48 am (UTC)But seriously, yeah, this was THE MOST predictable ending to ever be written. Even the baby-Neal, and Mozzie being adopted by Burkes. I told my sister when Keller first threatened Neal, but last night, I, especially after Mozzie broke down, I wished he'd stay dead. But nope, he was alive and in freaking Paris. So, it was perfect.
But Diana is moving to Washington to move Washington :( Now, little-Neal and little-Theo can't have play dates, or be corrupted by the good Uncle Mozzie. :'( But little-Neal got the Mozart :) :) :) :) :D

Date: 2014-12-20 07:44 am (UTC)But tonight I had a lot of trouble trying to sleep every times I closed my eyes I saw that scene at the Morgue...
I think there were many ways for Neal to fake his death as he did in the past but this in my opinion was a meaning one ....the death of Neal Caffrey conman extraordinaire...he closed his life ,,of crime ..and he return to life as a man new identity new life and that answer to Peter statement "you can be a conman or a man you can be both "....."killing" Neal Caffrey he made his choice..and how he promised "I can go straight" so he let Peter know the truth ..and that he can keep his promise...

Date: 2014-12-20 08:08 am (UTC)I was right there with you with the "do not want presumed dead", but after some considerations, I'm okay with it. And really, I refuse to be upset about my favorite show's finale - so I'm taking comfort in how the year strenghtened the bromance between Peter and Mozzie and the fact that the reunion is just behind the corner.
It was a good conclusion and it gives us so many options to write :)

Date: 2014-12-20 03:08 pm (UTC)But I'm still a little mad at the writers for doing this to us. I'll get past it though - especially when the Neal angst and reunion fics start flooding in...

Date: 2014-12-21 03:23 am (UTC)I love pics you posted. They really represent my feelings. At first devastated and then relieved & Happy.
I also had a hard time sleeping after the show ended.
"A little sad that Diana is leaving to DC, because I wanted baby Neal and baby Theo to grow up together like brothers."
Given that she hasn't moved that far away, I think they will still see a lot of each other. :)
He may not always stay on the Lawful side but I see Neal as really trying to live a life that would make Peter proud.

Date: 2014-12-21 04:16 am (UTC)And trust me, even knowing the outcome, Mozzie and Peter's distress at the morgue is just as painful on rewatch.

Date: 2014-12-21 06:09 pm (UTC)But overall I found I enjoy it more because I wasn't all anxious about what was going to happen next. After reading quite a few comments yesterday & re watching it, my head canon is that Moz found out about Neal just before he showed up at the Burke's. He left the wine bottle for Peter to find. He also gave baby Neal his bear Mozart and when He told Peter that he would see him around, he was actually saying goodbye because he was off to be with Neal in Paris.
On the second watch, I saw Peter's joy over Neal as being a lot more intense then I originally saw it.
