3. Something you made for someone else
Fanfic
Writing specifically "for someone else" is rather new to me. Of course, when I write a story it's always with the idea that I want to share it with the community. But it's only with last Christmas' fandom stocking that I started writing stories with a specific recipient in mind. And then, back in march I also wrote a little piece for my buddy
kanarek13. By Your Side Through the Night. It's dialogue only, full of angst (I know Kanarek loves those), post 5x13 fic. It's Peter & Neal with bits of that conversation they never had (I'm also working on a longer version of said conversation...)

The most obvious "made for someone else" art would be cover art. I've done a few and that's an exercice that I really enjoy. I like the challenge of finding the right idea and the right material for the right story. And contrary to fanfic, where I find it hard to "write on command" based on someone's else prompt, I find it easier to create an art piece if I'm given specifics. The two stories I picked up for last year's Big Bang were particularly fun. There was
rabidchild's I Can't Go Back to Yesterday, in which Tim DeKay falls into a very real White Collar world. Nothing technically that difficult, but the challenge there was to find a Tim DeKay that didn't look like Peter Burke.
And because apparently I like challenges, my second pick was
angelita26's Lost Boys, in which Peter, Neal and Mozzie are teenagers...
Matt's picture is from an old photoshoot, Willie's is from Quantum Leap (and he looks particularly adorable) and Tim's is from the Practice. The result is not perfect, but not too bad either.

I offered to do a video for the Sandy Charity a couple years ago (I think?) and
sholio made a generous donation and asked for a Tim DeKay video. I had never done a video not based on a particular story before so I wasn't sure how to do that. Plus there's the fact that the more raw material you start with, the more difficult it is to make a 3 minute video. I used to do videos from films, and moving to a TV show was challenging enough. As obsessed as I am over White Collar, I don't have all the scenes of all episodes stored in my brain to know which bit to add when. And suddenly it wasn't just White Collar, it was everything Tim did in his 20 years of career (The fact that I had most of it didn't help!)
But I was still determined to do it. And then I found the perfect song. Je Suis, by Florent Pagny (one of my favorite singers, please don't judge me). I knew that French wouldn't make it the easiest for a worldwide audience, but this song (lyrics and translation here) was so perfectly fitting for an actor. Plus it happened that Tim did almost all the roles mentioned in the song... (and if he didn't, that was close enough. He didn't play a pregnant woman, but he did play the husband of a pregnant woman). Also once an idea get stuck into my head, there's no way I can let it go.
And there it was, my first Tim DeKay video. :-)
