This is it! I'm leaving for Sacramento. First trip to the US in 3 months.
First stop: Sacramento for a conference. My oral presentation is on June 12th. I don't like it. I much prefer presenting early in the week, so that I'd be more relaxed the rest of the conference...
But I'm mostly ready. It should be fine.
Second stop: Yosemite park and San Francisco with
sahiya \o/ I am so looking forward to it!
Meanwhile, I managed to move things along for my visa. I received papers from the University, completed half a dozen things online (I'm barely exaggerating!), paid all possible fees - except the actual visa. No seriously, did you know that to make an appointment with the US ambassy you had to pay $15?! Just for being allowed to make an appointment!
And I even started registration to that online service for taxes for non-resident Aliens.
Oh yes, cause I'm officially a non-resident Alien and I'm in the system. The Homeland Security database. Mozzie would be horrified (both by the alien title and the homeland trail.)
I've signed for a appartement. It's a colocation. Not sure how I feel about that, but at least it's a modern student residence, all furnished and with high-speed wifi. :-) And most importantly, that's settled.
I think most of the things I still need to do can wait for me to arrive in Madison.
So, now, I mostly need to figure out what I'll pack with me, and what I'll pack to store at my parents'.
And finish all my work here. Writing that damn paper.
And go to the US ambassy. Did you know you can't have a cellphone, not even food nor water inside the US ambassy?! But you need to bring things to pass time because you might wait some time... Looking forward to it... (It's in July).
Also on my do-to list: write a solid letter for a potential job for after my post-doc. Deadline is 4 days after I come back from San Francisco... I have a good shot, I need to do it right.
Oh and I had a great dream with Tim last night. ♥
Time to go!
I think I've everything for my trip.
And your bonus DeKay, from Monster Ark. :-)

Date: 2014-06-07 09:33 am (UTC)Heh, $15 for making an appointment in the US Embassy? Try $150 over here :P My visa is still valid for 7 years, maybe something will finally have changed by then :D
Anyway, good luck in Sacramento and give Sahiya a hug from me :D You'll do great :D

Date: 2014-06-07 11:05 am (UTC)I guess this is why I never did anything other than keep my passport up-to-date. It's been my exit strategy, just in case the lunatics take over the asylum here. Wait, maybe I do need to research this more, if I ever need to be an ex-pat.
Good luck!
