I've been collecting movie tickets for about 13 years. I used to put them all in a box. But the other day, I bought a neat file to archive them all. How fun it was to go through them all. Some of them almost unreadable for too much time spent in my wallet at the time. Other keeping the scars of the boat origami I made with them.... And through all of them, I could see the periods of my life. Time when the price was in Francs. The wonderful times of High School. The time when the theater changed brand, so tickets changed. When I moved to Nancy, Pau, finally Paris. The occasional exotic tickets from holidays (Edinburgh, New York, but also that wandering outside theater in the middle of nowhere, France). The one time the ticket printer was broken and the name on the ticket is hand-written. The time when nobody ripped off the detachable part. The oldest tickets: La Vita è Bella, O Brother. Those that started it all, because those movies were such a shock and discovery that I didn't want to through the ticket. Every single movie George Clooney did since then. A few doubles. The birth (and death) of franchises. Harry Potter, The Lord of the Ring, Spiderman, Ice Age, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Bourne movies... Some great memories. Some not so great memories... A few movies I have NO memories at all.

In all, approximately 450 tickets.

I do the same thing!

I used to go to the movies a few times a week, but now I'm down to a few times a year. But I have most of my ticket stubs and have gone through them a few times to find out the name of a movie I'd forgotten.

They are in a pretty canister somewhere in my office.

What an interesting idea! Must be cool to look back at them, all the memories and the way things have altered over the years. Nice!

What a great idea. Glad to see you were in Edinburgh, where I grew up. Did you go to the Edinburgh Film Festival, or was it for a regular movie?

I will never forget seeing 'La Vita e Bella'. I had read nothing about it and was pregnant at the time. So the plot twist (no spoilers here!) came as a complete shock to me and I was inconsolable. What with all the pregnancy hormones flowing through me I must have cried for hours. I have not watched it since, it was such a traumatic experience. Sadly, I lost that pregnancy, so it is forever part of that sad time for me. Although I recognize what a great work of art it was, I don't think I will ever see it again.

Oh, how cool. :) I've kept a few, over the years, but I think they mostly tend to get put in boxes and forgotten, or thrown away when I've moved. It would be really neat to still have the ticket stubs from movies I went to in high school -- what a happy nostalgia trip. :)

oh so I'm not the only lunatic outthere!
I usually go to the movies 2 or 3 times a month. Depending on the month (sometime there's nothing interesting, sometimes there aren't enough weekends in a month!)

Yes, it's fun! I also collect transport tickets from countries or cities I visit. That's a more recent habits, and I visit less places than I see movies but that's really fun too. Sczcezin, Olso, New York, Rome...

I've rarely cried like I cried at this movie. I remember I had a cold. blocked noise. By the end of the movie I was such a mess that as soon as the credit rolled, I grabbed a tissue and blew my nose so loudly that it made people laugh.
I've seen it several times on TV since, I know it by heart. I know exactly what's going to happen, but it gets me everytime...

Actually I went to the movies twice in Edinburgh. Once in 2007 in a big theater to see Harry Potter (hmmm was it #5?). And once in 2009 to see Moon. The movie was shown at the Edinburgh film festival, but that was not an official screening. I actually wished I could have been to the official presentation of the movie but the festival was earlier that year, and I visited Edinburgh too late. :-/

I didn't know you were Scot! That's awesome! I've fallen in love with that country a few years ago, and I keep going back. Going again next month actually. :-)

yes, that was definitely a trip to Nostalgia. But it's fun, thinking back of those years, those films. Especially the High School years when we would go a whole bunch of friends, on a saturday afternoon, to see the first Lord of the Ring, the first Harry Potter...

I'm a postcard collector, though it's not quite the same as I collect them from all over the place, not just where I've been. I have a drawer full of them - possibly heading for the 1000 mark soon!
